Perfume is so personal to women that it can be hard to buy for someone or even choose one for yourself that you will wear long term with no regrets. How well do you know the person? Do their tastes change often? I am not loyal to any scent, and I buy many different perfumes that appeal to my mood and the woman I want to be on any given day. I've made a list based on mainstream and niche fragrances that might appeal to you or someone you love this Valentine's Day.
Vilhelm Parfumerie's
Fleur Burlesque is a perfume inspired by La Belle Epoque at Moulin Rouge or Maxim's of Paris. This is for a woman who loves her white florals with gardenia, jasmine, sandalwood, and amber. For those who love purple florals,
A Lilac a Day is another option. It's the ultimate in ladylike elegance. Spring is just around the corner, and who wouldn't want to wander through the lilacs? It gives me peace of mind just thinking of it.
features notes of sandalwood, tonka bean, and guaiac wood. These would both appeal to someone looking for something non floral or sweet. Androgynous fragrances are still going strong.
Replica
By the Fireplace is for someone who craves the incredible smoke of a fireplace and roasted chestnuts. It sounds simple, but it's more complex. This comes on like a hurricane and is quite powerful. It's well worth the price. If you're looking for something lighter then
Jazz Club is it. Notes of vetiver, leather, and tobacco set the mood for dim lit romance.
Lipstick On is more feminine. A lover of vintage cosmetics, vanities, and beauty rituals would appreciate it. The notes are iris, tonka bean, vanilla, and rice powder.
Serge Lutens
La Fille de Berlin is a rose among thorns. This bottle comes as a splash or a spray, and most people choose the spray since Serge Lutens parfums are quite potent and complex.
Notes of rose, honey, patchouli, and moss.
Thierry Mugler
Angel Muse is one to try even if you're not a fan of the original Angel. It's definitely a Mugler type of perfume, but more wearable. It features notes of hazelnut, whipped cream, and patchouli. What an odd combination, but it works. What you get with a Mugler perfume is something unique and a bit odd, but always long lasting and worth it's price.
Dior
Poison Girl is what's called an cold and hot (or icy hot) perfume. A tornado of opposites that create something delectable and hard to resist. It's often compared to YSL Black Opium. This is a poison updated for 2016, and it's a best seller. Notes of vanilla, tonka bean, tolu balsam, and cashmeran mix with bitter orange, lemon, Damask rose, and heliotrope.
La Vie Est Belle is a floral gourmand, and a descendant of
Flowerbomb. It's well liked among both men and women. If they've ever bought Flowerbomb or worn it as a signature, they will probably love this one. Gift sets are a better deal than buying separate products. You can also split these up and repackage them in a more chic box with a ribbon. Many department stores offer free gift wrapping.
Notes of praline, vanilla, patchouli, tonka bean, iris, orange blossom, and jasmine.
Chanel
Coco Mademoiselle is one of the six perfumes that all French women have worn at some point, and it's very popular among American women as well. This is for a lady who loves the design house and wants to smell expensive, but they don't mind wearing a popular perfume.
Chanel No 5 for a lover of the classics, or
Chanel No 5 L'Eau if the person wants something modernized.
Notes of patchouli, Turkish rose, orange, vetiver, and opoponax.
